Cult of Womanhood (Blog Review 2)

As a firm lover-of-women interested in religious philosophy and spirituality, the LensCulture post title "Cult of Womanhood" grabbed my attention. Artist Tabitha Barnard takes from her hometown's history of witchcraft to explore the rift between religion and femininity. I found this to be particularly interesting as a woman who grew up in the Catholic faith and now observes the trending ideas of occult spirituality. Also upon reading American Gothic literature, I am more curious than ever about the historic treatment of women in New England as well as the transformation of witchcraft as a concept into today. Women might not be burned as witches today, but they are still are still persecuted.  Witchcraft looks different, as a women choose to embrace their femininity through it. Barnard's photos reveal the strength of women as well as the pressures of existing as a female.
