Emily Beresford (Blog Review 7)

Emily Beresford is a photographer from Connecticut inspired by Dutch and Danish still-life and portrait painting. She uses light to evoke a sense of time--that which is still in the moment and changing or moving over people or landscapes.
"With time, light moves across and changes the landscape. It creeps into corners and moves in and out of rooms, rests on the figure’s cheek, glints off of jewelry, and falls on to hair. It appears as if the light falls onto the figures, or that it might come from them. There is a beauty in the way it rests on faces, defining their wrinkles and the curve of their mouths."
I was drawn to Beresford's work because it seems to evoke the same sense of light and time that my work has. During the last work in progress critique, we talked a lot about my use of light. By depicting the early morning/afternoon light, I am able to better illustrate a sense of fleeting and stillness of time, bringing the viewer into my space and stopping them to think a bit more about the "mundane" of my home.
