Work in Progress Critique 2 // Photo 2
• What was/is the initial idea, how is it evolving?
My initial idea was to depict "home" in terms of that which we leave behind. Through a series of still life photography, I hoped to explore the residue we leave behind and come to some conclusion as to why those things remain. My idea has evolved to explore the garish, strange, flashy, and artifice which lays in my home. I intend to continue exploring the idea of the traces left on my space, but I am interested in iterating what all of this unnatural is about. How does consumer and material culture influence home life? When life is fleeting, what do we choose to value and what do we choose to leave behind? I am interested in exploring the relationship between our spaces and our things and our time.
• Why do you feel the images you selected to print for this critique are your strongest, from among the group of new images? (i.e., what was your criteria for selection)
I think that I took the most interest in these photos, because the lighting gives a true sense of time within my home. I really get the feeling that it is the morning when I am fleeting or the afternoon when I am back from class and rediscovering what was left. These photos capture the reality of just how strange my home is and how fantastical a moment after can be.
• What specific questions do you have about the work in terms of how someone other than yourself might interpret the imagery?
